M-PACT coming to Marshall County March 1-3, 2010

Hailed as “one of the best pop-jazz vocal ensembles in the world” (San Francisco Chronicle) and “among the best a cappella groups in the country” (NBC’s Today Show), the pop-jazz tour-de-force, m-pact, has received countless honors, including Billboard’s Best Unsigned Band of 1999 and the coveted dual titles, 1996-1997 Grand National Champions and Audience Favorites of the Harmony Sweepstakes Festival. In 2001 this Seattle-based vocal band was crowned Artist of the Year at the SAMIE Awards, the Pacific Northwest’s annual contemporary pop music competition, and for the last two years, m-pact was voted Best Vocal Jazz Group (2002-2003) in the international ACA (A Cappella Community Awards) competition.

M-Pact will  be in Marshall County March 1-3, 2010, touring area schools and presenting a FREE concert Tuesday evening 7pm at the MHS Auditorium.  The concert is presented by the Marshall County Arts Cooperative .   Each of m-pact’s four original CD’s have received rave reviews and multiple awards, including Best Pop/R&B Song, Best Male Vocal, and Best Arrangement (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Artist Awards), as well as an Indie Nomination (the “Independent Grammy”) for Best Seasonal Album of 2000. Approximately 50,000 units have been sold between the three recordings

Go For Baroque Making a Stop in Marshall County

Go For Baroque, a chamber music ensemble from Oklahoma, will make a stop in Marshall County November 2 and 3.  While here, they will work with local music students as well as present a public concert.  Their visit is sponsored by the Marshall County Arts Cooperative. The concert will be Monday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. at the Waterville Opera House.  Admission is free. Entitled “Route 66: El Camino A La Fiesta (The Road to the Fiesta),” the concert features ten selections that showcase the Latino influence on music.  Pieces by Enrique Gonzalez-Medina, Alessandro Scarlatti, Claude Bolling, and Scott Joplin will be featured. “This is such a great opportunity for our area,” said Wayne Kruse, the arts cooperative’s executive director.  “We’ll have the chance to hear a top-notch ensemble perform some familiar pieces as well as introduce us to some new sounds.  The group performs each concert with high energy and they make their music come alive for audiences.  We’re in for a treat.” 

Marshall County Communty Band concerts in June

The MCCB has a very busy June schedule lined up. The band is performing on Thursday evenings in the Marysville City Park at the band stand. The concerts begin at 7:30. Each concert has a specific theme. June 4th is Music for the Young and Young at Heart, with music for and about children. This concert will also feature performances by children who are participating in the Kreative Kids Arts Camp. June 11th is A Rainbow of Music, with selections about colors. June 18th will be A Musical Journey Around the World, with music from different countries, including nthe good old USA. June 25th will be A Night at the Movies, with music from some movie favorites.

These concerts are always free. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. In case of rain or other inclement weather, the concerts will be held in the Lee Dam Center for Fine Arts in Marysville.

Come join the band in the City Park for a fun evening of music!

MCCB Spring rehearsals set

Spring is almost here, and summer is just around the corner. That means it is almost concert season! We are planning to have 8 performances this summer, and it’s time to start getting the music ready.

There will be 3 rehearsals this spring. The first will be on Sunday, March 29th, from 2:00 to 4:00 in the Marysville HS band room. We will begin rehearsing some of the music that will be used for concerts this summer. The Community Choir is having a rehearsal that afternoon as well,  beginning at 4:00. Those band members that are also participating in the choir will be able to attend both rehearsals if they so choose.

The second and third rehearsals will be on Sunday, April 19th and May 3rd, also in the Marysville HS band room, from 2:30-4:30. All three rehearsals are open to anyone who wishes to participate. So break out that instrument and join the fun!

MCCB rehearsals for Christmas concert are set

October 11th, 2008

The Marshall County Community Band will be having a Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 7th. To prepare for this concert, there will be three rehearsals. The dates are October 26th, November 16th and November 30th. All rehearsals will be in the Marysville HS band room from 1:30-3:00.

The concert on December 7th will be in the MHS Auditoriu. at 3:00. There will be a reception following the concert. The concert and reception will be free to the public.

MHS Alumni Homecoming Pep Band

September 2nd, 2008

The 2nd Annual MHS Alumni Pep Band will be on Marysville Homecoming, which is Friday, Sept 26th. This event is open to any MHS students/alumni who ever participated in the Marysville band, or for anybody that just likes to play pep band music! Community Band members are welcome to join the fun.

Registration and instrument check-out will be from 4-4:30 pm in the MHS cafeteria. We will begin rehearsing after 4:30, and will spend about 30-45 minutes going over pep band tunes, On To Victory, and the MHS Alma Mater. We will head over to the Homecoming Tailgate in the City Park around 5:15, and perform at the pep rally. After the pep rally, anyone who would like to continue the fun can join the MHS Bulldog Band in the stands to play during the game.

There will be instruments available to borrow on a first-come basis. If you need to borrow an instrument, please contact Meg Baker by e-mail to info@marshallcountyband.com by Monday, Sept 22nd.

We will be selecting the music in the next couple of weeks. If you have any requests, let us know and we’ll try to find it!

Community Band to play at Beattie MiloFest Aug 16th

The Marshall County Community Band will conclude the summer 2008 concert series with a performance at the Beattie MiloFest on August 16th at 6:00 pm. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to an indoor location in Beattie.

The Community Band will play many of the favorites from the summer concerts, including music from The Sound of Music, medleys from Glenn Miller and Chicago, Sandpaper Ballet, Songs for America, Red River Valley, and several marches.

The band has enjoyed the addition of several new members  and new performance opportunities in 2008. The final concert of the season will be a celebration of performances and events from the entire summer. Come join the Community Band in Beattie and help us celebrate 5 years of great music!

MCCB wraps up 2008 Summer Season

The Marshall County Community Band has just two performances remaining in the 2008 summer concert season. On Saturday, August 9th the Community Band will be performing at the Axtell Harvest Festival. The band will be in the parade at 11:00 am, and will perform a concert following the parade in downtown Axtell.

On Saturday, August 16th the band will conclude the summer performances with a concert at the Beattie MiloFest. The concert will begin at 5:00 pm, in conjunction with the famous BBQ chicken dinner.

Band membership is open to anyone who plays a band instrument. There are positions available in all sections for anyone who is interested in playing with the band.
